Agility Class Descriptions

Puppy Agility:  For dogs 6-12mo of age after attending a puppy class
Introduction to the obstacles used in agility, with limited jumping and lower heights of all obstacles. Focus on control, footing, fun. Obstacles used: different jumps, tunnel, chute, tire, table, dogwalk, A-frame, teeter, weave poles

Requirements:
1) Current on rabies and parvo/distemper vaccination,
2) Dewormed or negative fecal sample (the latter done at the veterinary clinic) any time within 3 months prior to start of class
3) Free of any health problems that would increase the risk of injuries to the dog while participating at the agility class (e.g. musculoskeletal or visual disease)
4) proof of participation at a puppy class (certificate, letter)


Agility Beginners:  For dogs 1 year and older
Introduction to the obstacles used in agility, increasing heights. Focus on control, footing, fun. Obstacles used: different jumps, tunnel, chute, tire, table, dogwalk, A-frame, teeter, weave poles.  Control over the dog is crucial for safety in agility. Obedience classes are highly recommended not only to improve control but also for social skills. The instructor needs to be able to handle the dog.  Aggressiveness towards people or other dogs can not be tolerated.

Requirements:
1) Current on rabies and parvo/distemper vaccination,
2) Dewormed or negative fecal sample (the latter done at the veterinary clinic) any time within 3 months prior to start of class
3) Free of any health problems that would increase the risk of injuries to the dog while participating at the agility class (e.g. musculoskeletal or visual disease)
4) proof of participation at an obedience class (certificate, letter) or evaluation by an instructor of The Better Companion (please make an appointment)


Agility Intermediate:  For dogs 1 year and older.

Training different sequences, side changes, lead outs and send to. Working up to full competition heights. Focus on control, speed, fun. Obstacles used: different jumps, tunnel, chute, tire, table, dogwalk, A-frame, teeter, weave poles

This is the follow-up class after the dog has learned to take the obstacles safely. Some dogs will benefit from repeating the Agility Beginners Class, before they are ready for this level.

Control over the dog is crucial for safety in agility. Obedience classes are highly recommended, not only to improve control, but also for social skills. The instructor needs to be able to handle the dog. Aggressiveness towards people or other dogs can not be accepted.

3) Free of any health problems that would increase the risk of injuries to the dog while participating at the agility class (e.g. musculoskeletal or visual disease)
4) Participation at an agility beginners class prior to this level. The dog should have learned to take all obstacles safely, before entering the intermediate level.


Agility Advanced:  For dogs 1 year and older.

Solving trial course challenges, gambler challenges. Working up to full competition heights. Focus on control, speed, distance, fun. Obstacles used: different jumps, tunnel, chute, tire, table, dogwalk, A-frame, teeter, weave poles.

This is the follow-up class after the dog has learned to take the obstacles safely at full height and to stay under control for several obstacles in a row. Some dogs will benefit from repeating the Agility Intermediate Class, before they are ready for this level.

Requirements:
1) Current on rabies and parvo/distemper vaccination,
2) Dewormed or negative fecal sample (the latter done at the veterinary clinic) any time within 3 months prior to start of class
3) Free of any health problems that would increase the risk of injuries to the dog while participating at the agility class (e.g. musculoskeletal or visual disease)
4) Participation at an agility intermediate class with The Better Companion prior to this level.
